The Diamond Match Company factory in Barberton, Ohio. Diamond match, built in part by the work of Ohio Columbus Barber became one of the majormatch manufacturing companies in the United States. In 1910, the Company patented the first nonpoisonous match. the new formula used a safer chemical called phophorous sesquisulfide. The new formula was so much safer than all previous match tip formulations that President William H. Taft publicly asked Diamond Match to release their patent for the good of mankind. Diamond Match did just that in 1911.
